Following a debilitating stroke in 2012, Todd immediately used drawing as a means of expression, when language had deserted him. His hospital sketchbooks (which will be added to this site in due course) manifest a struggle with diminished perception, and also attempted to communicate the changes in his brain to family members and medical staff. The work from the remaining six years of his life shows an adjustment to his loss of virtuosity as a draftsman, emphasising texture, detail and depth through planar recession.
